Sen. Wilton Simpson & Rep. Lake Ray File Natural Gas Vehicle Legislation
Tallahassee, Fla. — Today, Senator Wilton Simpson (R-Trilby) and Rep. Lake Ray (R- Jacksonville), filed Senate Bill 560 and House Bill 579, the Florida Natural Gas Vehicle Act. “The recent natural gas development across the United States has shown there are voluminous reserves of recoverable domestic natural gas. As a result, it’s become evident that natural gas powered vehicles provide a means to reduce overall cost to businesses and residents, spur the economy, create jobs and reduce air emissions, among other benefits,” said Senator Simpson. “This legislation will jump start the implementation of natural gas motor fuel in Florida and maximize its benefit through the implementation of a progressive tax structure and clearly outlined incentives.”
“Natural gas can play a significant role in Florida’s initiative to increase trade and transportation mobility as a readily available, less costly, domestic, and environmentally friendly motor fuel source. This clean and domestic fuel will also allow Florida to reduce its dependence on foreign oil,” said Rep. Ray. “Currently, there are 32 natural gas fueling stations in Florida, and a broad coalition of business interests have come together in support of this legislation.”
