Garcia to Hold Job-Creation Forum in Miami-Dade County
Senator Organizes Meeting to Workshop New Jobs Bill
HIALEAH, Fla. —
Getting Florida’s economy back on track and creating jobs remains a priority for lawmakers like Senator Rene Garcia, R-Hialeah. To help jumpstart a jobs bill for the 2012 Legislative Session, the senator will host business and community leaders July 28, at Florida International University, to discuss ways to create more opportunities in Florida.
“The goal of this meeting is to develop the building blocks for a bill that can be filed for the upcoming session,” said Garcia. “This summer is the time to get started so we’ll have a tangible, workable bill as soon as possible. There will be many issues on the table again next year, but job creation is one that hits at the heart of our entire state’s health, and it needs our early attention.”
Along with Miami-Dade County leaders, the meeting will host members of Florida’s Agency for Workforce Innovation, Enterprise Florida and the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Community members can also share suggestions for job creation by e-mailing garcia.rene.s40@flsenate.gov.
“I look forward to getting these minds together,” said Garcia. “We all need to put politics aside and get down to what needs to be done and how to make it happen.”
The Senator added that, if necessary, subsequent local meetings may be held to ready a final draft bill. For more information on the legislative process, to learn about your local lawmakers or to track legislation, visit www.flsenate.gov.
