Statement by Florida Senate Majority Leader Andy Gardiner on President Obama’s State of the Union Address
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. —
Senate Majority Leader Andy Gardiner, R-Orlando, released the following statement regarding President Obama’s State of the Union Address:
“The State of the Union Address reminds us we are part of something greater than ourselves. We are Americans, and we are Floridians.
“We heard themes in President Obama’s address which echo Republican-led issues within the Florida Legislature. Job creation, innovation, quality of education, tort reform and a more efficient government are all areas in which Florida Senate Republicans are working hard to improve policy and create opportunities within the Sunshine State. We hope to see President Obama act on his sentiments with a definitive plan specifically for restrained spending.
“As members of the Florida Legislature, we must continue to work hard to make Florida the best place in America to do business, the best place to educate our children and the best place to call home. We need to foster an environment of personal freedoms and personal responsibility. By fostering an environment of free enterprise and limited government, traditions which made America great, we will get Florida and the country back on track.
“As President Obama noted, the U.S. still has the largest, most prosperous economy in the world. It is the land of opportunity. Florida plays an important part in our nation’s prosperity and in our nation’s challenge to maintain the role of world leader. It is our responsibility to make the right choices for America’s future.”
