FOLLOWING MDX RULING, SENATOR ANNETTE TADDEO CALLS FOR REFOCUS ON LOWERING TOLLS, IMPROVING TRANSPORTATION FOR MIAMI-DADE

Miami —

MIAMI, FL – In response to a Leon County judge’s ruling today that legislation passed during the 2019 legislative session dissolving the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority was unconstitutional, state Senator Annette Taddeo (D-Miami) issued the following statement:

"As I stated numerous times on the Senate Floor, this bill was against Miami-Dade’s Home Rule Charter and therefore unconstitutional.”

"?With today's court ruling that HB 385 was an ‘unconstitutional special law’, instead of appealing this decision or filing an injunction at great cost to taxpayers, I am calling on all parties involved to put aside their personal issues with MDX, and work with stakeholders to ensure that the serious transportation problems we have in Miami-Dade County are addressed. After all, the purported purpose of the legislation was to lower tolls.  Our traffic issues are too immense to do anything else.”
