House Resolution
2A resolution encouraging the donation of surplus fire
3equipment and materials to Florida's volunteer fire
4departments.

6     WHEREAS, approximately 80 percent of the fire departments
7in the United States are manned by volunteers, and
8     WHEREAS, surplus fire equipment and materials have been
9donated to countries overseas by municipal and other fire
10departments, and
11     WHEREAS, almost half of the expenses of volunteer fire
12departments in this state could be lessened by such donations to
13volunteer fire departments, and
14     WHEREAS, surplus fire equipment and materials paid for by
15taxpayers should be donated to sister fire departments in this
16state, and
17     WHEREAS, the City of Hallandale Beach, the Broward County
18League of Cities, the Florida League of Cities, the United
19States Conference of Mayors, and the National League of Cities
20have adopted resolutions encouraging the donation of surplus
21fire equipment and materials to volunteer fire departments, NOW,
22THEREFORE,

24Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
25Florida:

27     That the Florida House of Representatives strongly
28encourages the donation of surplus fire equipment and materials
29to Florida's volunteer fire departments.
