    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to community colleges; amending s.
    3         1000.21, F.S.; renaming Gulf Coast Community College
    4         as “Gulf Coast State College”; renaming Pensacola
    5         Junior College as “Pensacola State College”; renaming
    6         St. Johns River Community College as “St. Johns River
    7         State College”; renaming Valencia Community College as
    8         “Valencia College”; amending ss. 288.8175, 1004.74,
    9         and 1004.75, F.S., relating to linkage institutes, the
   10         Florida School of the Arts, and the consolidation of
   11         certain training schools; conforming provisions;
   12         providing an effective date.

   14  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   15  
   16         Section 1. Paragraphs (i), (t), (v), and (bb) of subsection
   17  (3) of section 1000.21, Florida Statutes, are amended to read:
   18         1000.21 Systemwide definitions.—As used in the Florida K-20
   19  Education Code:
   20         (3) “Florida college” or “community college,” except as
   21  otherwise specifically provided, includes all of the following
   22  public postsecondary educational institutions in the Florida
   23  College System and any branch campuses, centers, or other
   24  affiliates of the institution:
   25         (i) Gulf Coast State Community College, which serves Bay,
   26  Franklin, and Gulf Counties.
   27         (t) Pensacola State Junior College, which serves Escambia
   28  and Santa Rosa Counties.
   29         (v) St. Johns River State Community College, which serves
   30  Clay, Putnam, and St. Johns Counties.
   31         (bb) Valencia Community College, which serves Orange and
   32  Osceola Counties.
   33         Section 2. Paragraph (b) of subsection (5) of section
   34  288.8175, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:
   35         288.8175 Linkage institutes between postsecondary
   36  institutions in this state and foreign countries.—
   37         (5) The institutes are:
   38         (b) Florida-Costa Rica Institute (Florida State University
   39  and Valencia Community College).
   40         Section 3. Subsection (3) of section 1004.74, Florida
   41  Statutes, is amended to read:
   42         1004.74 Florida School of the Arts.—
   43         (3) The Florida School of the Arts is assigned to the
   44  District Board of Trustees of the St. Johns River State
   45  Community College for purposes of administration and governance;
   46  but the Florida School of the Arts, within appropriations and
   47  limitations established annually by the Legislature, shall serve
   48  as a professional school on a statewide basis for all qualified
   49  students.
   50         Section 4. Paragraph (b) of subsection (1) of section
   51  1004.75, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:
   52         1004.75 Training school consolidation pilot projects.—
   53         (1) ESTABLISHMENT.—To consolidate and more efficiently use
   54  state and taxpayer resources by combining training programs,
   55  pilot training centers are established to provide public
   56  criminal justice training in Leon and St. Johns Counties. The
   57  following pilot training centers are established:
   58         (b) The Criminal Justice Academy at St. Johns River State
   59  Community College.
   60         Section 5. This act shall take effect July 1, 2011.
