    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to public safety telecommunicators;
    3         amending s. 401.465, F.S.; providing for sworn state
    4         certified law enforcement officers to serve as
    5         temporary 911 public safety telecommunicators;
    6         providing training requirements; providing an
    7         effective date.

    9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   10  
   11         Section 1. Subsection (5) is added to section 401.465,
   12  Florida Statutes, to read:
   13         401.465 911 public safety telecommunicator certification.—
   14         (5) TEMPORARY 911 PUBLIC SAFETY COMMUNICATORS; EXCEPTION.
   15  Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, a public
   16  safety agency may use sworn law enforcement officers as
   17  temporary 911 public safety telecommunicators. Any officer who
   18  works as a temporary 911 public safety telecommunicator must,
   19  within 12 months after first serving as such, successfully
   20  complete a supplementary training program for temporary 911
   21  public safety telecommunicators which provides a maximum of 40
   22  hours training and is distributed by the Criminal Justice
   23  Standards and Training Commission.
   24         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2011.
