2A resolution recognizing March 2011 as "Brain Injury
3Awareness Month" in Florida.

5     WHEREAS, 100,000 Floridians annually sustain a traumatic
6brain injury, and
7     WHEREAS, more than 8,300 Floridians sustain permanent,
8life-long disabilities from a traumatic brain injury that
9results in a life-altering experience that may include serious
10physical, cognitive, and emotional impairments, and
11     WHEREAS, more than 210,000 Floridians currently live with
12permanent disabilities resulting from a traumatic brain injury,
13but the lack of public awareness is so vast that traumatic brain
14injury is known in the disability community as the "silent
15epidemic," and
16     WHEREAS, traumatic brain injury attributable to roadside
17bombs and blasts is the signature wound of the global War on
18Terror, and military personnel who return to Florida with
19traumatic brain injuries require additional state and local
20resources, and
21     WHEREAS, most cases of traumatic brain injury are
22preventable, and enhanced public awareness of traumatic brain
23injury is essential in preventing and developing effective
24treatment and providing necessary resources, and
25     WHEREAS, the Brain Injury Association of Florida, Inc., has
26recognized March as "Brain Injury Awareness Month," NOW,
27THEREFORE,

29Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
30Florida:

32     That March 2011 is recognized as "Brain Injury Awareness
33Month" in Florida.
