    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to the primary election date; amending
    3         s. 100.061, F.S.; decreasing the period between the
    4         primary election and the general election in each year
    5         in which a general election is held; providing an
    6         effective date.

    8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
    9  
   10         Section 1. Section 100.061, Florida Statutes, is amended to
   11  read:
   12         100.061 Primary election.—In each year in which a general
   13  election is held, a primary election for nomination of
   14  candidates of political parties shall be held on the Tuesday 11
   15  12 weeks before prior to the general election. The candidate
   16  receiving the highest number of votes cast in each contest in
   17  the primary election shall be declared nominated for such
   18  office. If two or more candidates receive an equal and highest
   19  number of votes for the same office, such candidates shall draw
   20  lots to determine which candidate is nominated.
   21         Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law.
