2An act relating to the Pinellas Police Standards
3Council, Pinellas County; amending chapter 72-666,
4Laws of Florida, as amended; increasing a court cost
5to fund the council; providing an effective date.

7Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

9     Section 1.  Paragraph (2) of subsection (k) of section 4 of
10chapter 72-666, Laws of Florida, as amended by chapter 97-333,
11Laws of Florida, is amended to read:
12     Section 4.  Powers and duties.-In the performance of its
13duties and the execution of its functions under this act, the
14council shall have the following powers:
15     (k)  To provide for a centralized screening and information
16center on prospective law enforcement officers in Pinellas
17County, to be known as the Public Safety Applicant Screening
18Service (PSASS).
19     (2)  The council's annual budget shall be submitted to the
20Board of County Commissioners for their approval. The provisions
21of this section shall be funded by a $3 $2 court cost on all
22payable offenses, to be assessed by the circuit and county
23courts in Pinellas County on all contested and uncontested
24traffic cases, criminal and civil, excluding parking fines,
25bicycle violations, and pedestrian violations that are payable
26offenses. Additional funding may be secured by the council by
27assessing the law enforcement agencies a fee for the cost of
28screening the applicants.
29     Section 2.  This act shall take effect October 1, 2012.
