       The Committee on Appropriations (Galvano) recommended the
       following:
       
    1         Senate Amendment 
    2  
    3         Delete lines 976 - 995
    4  and insert:
    5  sciences, humanities, and natural sciences. The core courses may
    6  be revised or the five-course cap within each subject area may
    7  be exceeded if approved by the State Board of Education and the
    8  Board of Governors, as recommended by the subject area faculty
    9  committee and approved by the Articulation Coordinating
   10  Committee, as necessary for a subject area. Each general
   11  education core course option must contain high-level academic
   12  and critical thinking skills and common competencies that
   13  students must demonstrate to successfully complete the course.
   14  Beginning with students initially entering a Florida College
   15  System institution or state university in 2015-2016 2014-2015
   16  and thereafter, each student must complete at least one
   17  identified core course in each subject area as part of the
   18  general education course requirements. All public postsecondary
   19  educational institutions shall offer and accept these courses as
   20  meeting general education core course requirements. The
   21  remaining general education course requirements shall be
   22  identified by each institution and reported to the department by
   23  their statewide course number. The general education core course
   24  options shall be adopted in rule by the State Board of Education
   25  and in regulation by the Board of Governors.
