HB 43: Inmate Reentry

GENERAL BILL by Campbell

Inmate Reentry; Waiving fee for identification cards issued to certain inmates & for certain inmates receiving copy of birth certificate; requires DOC to work with other agencies in acquiring necessary documents for certain inmates; provides exceptions; requires DOC to provide specified assistance to inmates born outside this state; requires report; authorizes DOC to operate male & female faith- & character-based institutions; directs DOC to establish reentry program for nonviolent offenders; provides eligibility & participation requirements; provides guidelines where DOC shall terminate inmate's participation in program; provides for inmate to participate in drug offender probation upon completion of in-prison reentry program; authorizes use of postadjudicatory drug court for program participant; authorizes DOC to contract for services; provides that no rights are conferred upon inmates to participate in reentry program; provides for reports & rulemaking.
