    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to law enforcement officer-involved
    3         shootings; requiring a local law enforcement agency to
    4         report a law enforcement officer-involved shooting to
    5         the state attorney and Attorney General; requiring the
    6         local law enforcement agency to report the shooting to
    7         the United States Department of Justice under certain
    8         circumstances; encouraging the United States
    9         Department of Justice to conduct a full investigation;
   10         providing an effective date.

   12  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   13  
   14         Section 1. Reporting law enforcement officer-involved
   15  shootings.—A local law enforcement agency must report a law
   16  enforcement officer-involved shooting to the state attorney and
   17  Attorney General. If the state attorney or the Attorney General
   18  does not begin an investigation within 60 days, the local law
   19  enforcement agency must report the law enforcement officer
   20  involved shooting to the United States Department of Justice,
   21  and that department is encouraged to conduct a full
   22  investigation.
   23         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2016.
