    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to education; amending s. 1001.43,
    3         F.S.; making a technical change; prohibiting a
    4         district school board from prohibiting a student from
    5         lawfully wearing the uniform of any branch of the
    6         military or naval service of the United States or of
    7         the state at his or her graduation ceremony; providing
    8         an effective date.

   10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   11  
   12         Section 1. Subsection (8) of section 1001.43, Florida
   13  Statutes, is amended to read:
   14         1001.43 Supplemental powers and duties of district school
   15  board.—The district school board may exercise the following
   16  supplemental powers and duties as authorized by this code or
   17  State Board of Education rule.
   18         (8) STUDENT ASSESSMENT AND AFFAIRS.—The district school
   19  board may adopt policies and procedures governing attendance
   20  monitoring and checks; truancy; graduation requirements and
   21  graduation exercises; fees, fines, and charges imposed on
   22  students; evaluation of student records and transcripts;
   23  transfer of student records; grading and academic evaluation of
   24  students; tests and examinations, including early examinations;
   25  guidance and counseling; and student participation in
   26  competitions, student performances and exhibitions, contests for
   27  students, and social events; and graduation requirements and
   28  graduation exercises. A district school board may not prohibit a
   29  student from lawfully wearing the uniform of any branch of the
   30  military or naval service of the United States or of the state
   31  at his or her graduation ceremony.
   32         Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law.
