State Senator Ileana Garcia Granted $500,000 from the Department of Environmental Protection for Pinecrest Stormwater Improvements

Miami, FL —

Tuesday, September 13th, 2022, saw State Senator Ileana Garcia granting the City of Pinecrest a successful total of $500,000 she worked to secure this past session by the Department of Environmental Protection towards supporting Pinecrest Stormwater Improvements. This initiative intends to solve the immediate challenges presented by an outdated drainage system, water retention, and sea level rising.

A number of sewer inlets are already dispersed throughout the town in order to prevent flooding in particularly vulnerable areas by the impending storms. These then connect to an underground piping system known as a culvert that empties into the nearest canal. This has been imperative throughout the years in order to preserve the sewers integrity and prohibit contamination of other substances (besides natural rainwater) from flowing through. Funding from the bill will go directly towards the Village’s upgraded plan based off studies and rankings provided by Family Peer Support Services (FPSS) repetitive loss claims, home flooding, and residential surveys.

As a result, this will mitigate any damage during the course of a natural disaster such as a storm or hurricane which will consequently minimize the amount of recurring destruction reports and building cataclysms reported by the local community. Positive impacts of the project can be expected to directly improve the quality of water retention in affected areas, reduce environmental impact, and ultimately, the safety of residents both directly and indirectly for years to come.
