1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to the construction of the
3 Florida Statutes; amending s. 1.01, F.S.;
4 redefining the term "veteran"; providing an
5 effective date.

7 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

9 Section 1. Paragraph (f) of subsection (14) of section
10 1.01, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:
11 1.01 Definitions.--In construing these statutes and
12 each and every word, phrase, or part hereof, where the context
13 will permit:
14 (14) The term "veteran" means a person who served in
15 the active military, naval, or air service and who was
16 discharged or released therefrom under honorable conditions
17 only or who later received an upgraded discharge under
18 honorable conditions, notwithstanding any action by the United
19 States Department of Veterans Affairs on individuals
20 discharged or released with other than honorable discharges.
21 To receive benefits as a wartime veteran, a veteran must have
22 served during one of the following periods of wartime service:
23 (f) Vietnam Era: February 28, 1961 August 5, 1964, to
24 May 7, 1975.
25 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
26 law.

Redefines the definition of the term "veteran" for the
4 purposes of the Florida Statutes to include the Vietnam
Era which is redefined as the period of February 28,
5 1961, to May 7, 1975.
