Florida Senate - 1998 SB 566 By Senator Grant 13-565-98 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to trust funds; creating the 3 "Rhea Chiles Health Care Education Trust Fund"; 4 providing for the administration of the trust 5 fund; providing an appropriation; providing a 6 conditional effective date. 7 8 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 9 10 Section 1. (1) There is created the "Rhea Chiles 11 Health Care Education Trust Fund" to be administered by the 12 College of Public Health of the University of South Florida. 13 The sum of $200 million is appropriated from the Tobacco 14 Settlement to the Rhea Chiles Health Care Education Trust 15 Fund. The State Board of Administration shall invest the funds 16 under sections 215.44-215.53, Florida Statutes. Interest 17 earned on the invested funds may be used only for the purpose 18 of purchasing and maintaining equipment for health care 19 education programs in the state postsecondary education system 20 as provided in subsection (2). 21 (2) Each fiscal year one-half of the interest earned by 22 the trust fund must be distributed to the universities in the 23 State University System based on the FTE enrollment in health 24 care education programs in each university. Each fiscal year 25 one-half of the interest earned by the trust fund must be 26 distributed to the community colleges based on the FTE 27 enrollment in health care education programs in each community 28 college. 29 Section 2.
