  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to education; amending s.

  3         236.081, F.S., relating to funds for operation

  4         of schools; providing funding for extension of

  5         the school year; providing an effective date.

  7  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  8

  9         Section 1.  Paragraph (q) is added to subsection (1) of

10  section 236.081, Florida Statutes, to read:

11         236.081  Funds for operation of schools.--If the annual

12  allocation from the Florida Education Finance Program to each

13  district for operation of schools is not determined in the

14  annual appropriations act or the substantive bill implementing

15  the annual appropriations act, it shall be determined as

16  follows:

17         (1)  COMPUTATION OF THE BASIC AMOUNT TO BE INCLUDED FOR

18  OPERATION.--The following procedure shall be followed in

19  determining the annual allocation to each district for

20  operation:

21         (q)  Extended school year.--Each school district that

22  provides for an extended school year shall receive an

23  allocation for such extension for one-half of the cost of

24  operation of schools for up to 6 extra school days per year.

25  For purposes of this paragraph, the extension must be beyond

26  180 days of regular classroom instruction in the typical

27  school year.  The cost of operation shall be based on a pro

28  rata share of each school district's operational budget for

29  the previous year divided by the number of classroom teaching

30  days.

  1         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1 of the

  2  year in which enacted.

      Provides that each school district that extends its
  7    school year beyond 180 days of regular classroom
      instruction in a typical school year shall receive an
  8    allocation for such extension for one-half of the cost of
      operation of schools for up to 6 extra school days per
