11  Senator Sullivan moved the following amendment:

13         Senate Amendment 

14         On page 5, lines 15 through 22, delete those lines

15

16  and insert:

17         (c)  Subject to the provisions of subsection (1),

18  district school boards are authorized and encouraged to

19  establish requirements for high school graduation in excess of

20  the minimum requirements by increasing the required academic

21  courses set forth in subsection (1)(a) through (j) and

22  decreasing the number of elective credits proportionately, and

23  by increasing the minimum grade point average requirement;

24  however, an increase in required courses academic credit or

25  minimum grade point average requirements shall not apply to

26  those students enrolled in grades 9 through 12 at the time the

27  district school board increases the requirements. This

28  paragraph does not preclude district school boards from

29  establishing academic credit requirements in excess of 24

30  credits for academy, magnet, or other special courses of study

31  programs which students may voluntarily enter and agree to the
