  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution recognizing the week of April

  3         14-18, 1997, as "Teachers Appreciation Week."

  4

  5         WHEREAS, the Florida District of Kiwanis, consisting of

  6  approximately 350 clubs and approximately 14,000 members,

  7  including 26 divisions and including organizations in its

  8  family such as Circle K (college youth), Key Club (high school

  9  youth), Builders Club (middle school), and K-Kids (elementary

10  school), has long been a champion of education, and

11         WHEREAS, the international service club founded in 1915

12  has continually lived up to its motto of "We build," and its

13  current theme directs its members to participate in "Young

14  Children:  Priority One," and

15         WHEREAS, the Florida District of Kiwanis Community

16  Service Committee has spearheaded a campaign to honor

17  Florida's elementary and secondary school teachers by

18  presenting "an apple to teacher" stamped with the Kiwanis

19  emblem and proclaiming that "Kiwanis loves and appreciates our

20  teachers," NOW, THEREFORE,

22  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

23  Florida:

25         That the Florida House of Representatives does hereby

26  join the Florida District of Kiwanis in recognizing the week

27  of April 14-18, 1997, as "Teachers Appreciation Week."

28         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of

29  Representatives extends its invitation to Governor Lawton

30  Chiles and Commissioner of Education Frank Brogan to join the

31  House of Representatives in saluting members of Florida's

  1  Kiwanis family for their recognition of teachers whose task it

  2  is to sharpen and polish the potential of tomorrow's citizens.

  3         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

  4  be presented to Kiwanis Governor Vannoy Banks as a tangible

  5  token of the sentiments expressed herein.
