  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution honoring the Jacksonville Jaguars

  3         football team.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, in Chicago, Illinois, at 4:12 p.m., Eastern

  6  Time, on November 30, 1993, Jacksonville, Florida, was awarded

  7  the 30th franchise in the National Football League, and

  8         WHEREAS, since September 3, 1995, when the Jacksonville

  9  Jaguars played their inaugural game in the Jacksonville

10  Municipal Stadium against the Houston Oilers, Jacksonville has

11  become passionate with Jaguars fever, boasting the greatest

12  football fans in the nation, and

13         WHEREAS, in the 1996 regular season, the Jacksonville

14  Jaguars ranked second in the NFL in offense, and

15         WHEREAS, the Jacksonville Jaguars became the NFL's

16  first second-year team ever to win two playoff games, scoring

17  60 points, the most points scored by any NFL team in its first

18  two postseason games, and

19         WHEREAS, the Jaguars became the first team ever to beat

20  the Buffalo Bills at Rich Stadium in the playoffs and only the

21  second team to defeat the Denver Broncos at Mile High Stadium

22  in the playoffs, and

23         WHEREAS, advancing to the AFC Championship game and

24  ending its second season just one game short of the Super

25  Bowl, the Jacksonville Jaguars have become one of the elite

26  teams in the NFL, and

27         WHEREAS, the Jaguars Foundation has led the NFL in

28  community efforts, including grantmaking, the Playbooks

29  reading program, its youth anti-smoking initiative, the

30  "Straight Talk" effort to reduce teen pregnancy, holiday food

  1  drives, and the unique Honor Rows Program that uses seats as

  2  incentives for youth to earn their way to home games, and

  3         WHEREAS, the Jaguars Foundation programs have been

  4  nationally recognized in The New York Times, Osgood File radio

  5  show, and "Grantmakers in Health" and have received the

  6  Governor's Community Investment Award and WTLV Channel 12 "Top

  7  of the Class" Award, NOW, THEREFORE,

  9  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

10  Florida:

12         That the Florida House of Representatives recognizes

13  and congratulates the Jacksonville Jaguars on the team's

14  impressive accomplishments during its first two years of

15  competition in the National Football League.
