  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution commending Manuel G. Alvarez, Jr.

  3

  4         WHEREAS, Manuel G. Alvarez, Jr., was born in Tampa,

  5  Florida, on August 14, 1933, to parents Ramona and Manuel G.

  6  Alvarez, Sr., and

  7         WHEREAS, Manuel G. Alvarez, Jr., grew up in the West

  8  Tampa section of the city, was educated in Florida schools,

  9  and received his banking degree from Louisiana State

10  University in 1973, and

11         WHEREAS, Manuel G. Alvarez, Jr., served his country in

12  the United States Army and was honorably discharged on April

13  30, 1962, and

14         WHEREAS, Manuel G. Alvarez, Jr., is married to the

15  former Mary Castellano, and they have two children, Manny III

16  and Lori Jeanine, and four grandchildren, and

17         WHEREAS, Manuel G. Alvarez, Jr., who has made a

18  successful career in banking for 45 years, is now Chairman of

19  the Board of Manufacturers Bank of Florida which he launched

20  11 years ago, and

21         WHEREAS, Manuel G. Alvarez, Jr., is known for his civic

22  involvement in such organizations as the City of Tampa

23  Advisory Board, the Ybor City State Museum, and the American

24  Cancer Society, and

25         WHEREAS, Manuel G. Alvarez, Jr., was the Ybor City

26  Chamber of Commerce 1995 Cesar Gonzmart Award recipient in

27  recognition of his tradition of giving, caring, and commitment

28  to the community, as well as for his efforts in preserving the

29  unique cultural aspects of the Ybor City National Historic

30  Landmark District, and

  1         WHEREAS, Manuel G. Alvarez, Jr., was named Hispanic Man

  2  of the Year for 1997 by Tampa Hispanic Heritage, Inc., for his

  3  community work, leadership, and contributions to his industry,

  4  and

  5         WHEREAS, Manuel G. Alvarez, Jr., is a gentleman of

  6  gentlemen and a man for all people, NOW, THEREFORE,

  7

  8  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

  9  Florida:

10

11         That Manuel G. Alvarez, Jr., is hereby recognized and

12  commended for his accomplishments in banking, for his civic

13  involvement, and for his contributions to his community and

14  the State of Florida.

15         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

16  be presented to Manuel G. Alvarez, Jr., as a tangible token of

17  the sentiments expressed herein.
