  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution in honor of Reverend Charles B.

  3         Dailey.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, Reverend Charles Dailey was honored on

  6  February 17, 1997, in celebration of his 38th year of service

  7  at the First Baptist Church of Oakland, and

  8         WHEREAS, Reverend Dailey is a native of Louisville,

  9  Kentucky, receiving his early education from the public

10  schools of Indianapolis, Indiana, and graduating from Butler

11  University of Indianapolis, and

12         WHEREAS, prior to his pastorate in Jacksonville, he

13  served as pastor of the Second Baptist Church of Anderson,

14  Indiana, and was actively involved in a number of

15  organizations including the Urban League Board of Anderson,

16  the Indiana Baptist State Ministers Convention, the Indiana

17  Baptist State Sunday School and B.T.U. Congress, and the Youth

18  Advisory Council of the Northeastern District Baptist

19  Association, and

20         WHEREAS, in the Jacksonville area, he later served as

21  President of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of

22  Duval and Adjacent Counties for 16 years, and

23         WHEREAS, under his leadership, the First Baptist Church

24  of Oakland Development Company, Inc., has implemented two

25  programs, Oakland Trace, Phase I, and Oakland Trace, Phase II,

26  to revitalize the Lower Eastside of Jacksonville and, in

27  partnership with the University of North Florida, a course

28  designed to help high school students become better prepared

29  to take the required ACT/SAT tests was developed, and

30         WHEREAS, he has served as pastor of First Baptist

31  Church of Oakland since July 1959, and the ministry he has

  1  provided to the congregation and to the residents of the

  2  community is commendable, with many finding spiritual guidance

  3  and increasing their community involvement under his counsel,

  4  NOW, THEREFORE,

  6  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

  7  Florida:

  8

  9         That the House of Representatives extends its

10  congratulations to Reverend Charles Dailey in honor of his

11  years of faithful service to the residents of Jacksonville and

12  sends best wishes for many more years of dedicated service to

13  the Jacksonville community, the state, and the larger

14  community of mankind.

15         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

16  be presented to Reverend Charles B. Dailey as a tangible token

17  of the sentiments expressed herein.
