  2         An act relating to education; creating s.

  3         232.042, F.S.; requiring each child, prior to

  4         enrollment in school, to submit evidence of

  5         whether or not he or she has learned to swim;

  6         requiring the district school board to provide

  7         certain information; providing for review and

  8         repeal; providing an effective date.

10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11

12         Section 1.  Section 232.042, Florida Statutes, is

13  created to read:

14         232.042  Swim lessons; school enrollment

15  requirements.--The school board of each district shall

16  establish a policy which requires a child, prior to enrollment

17  in public school, to submit evidence of whether or not he or

18  she has learned to swim.  Such a policy shall include

19  provisions for providing information regarding available

20  learn-to-swim programs in the community to the parent or

21  guardian of each child who, upon enrollment, has not learned

22  to swim.  No civil liability shall be incurred by any school

23  district based on this section.

24         Section 2.  This section is repealed on July 1, 2005

25  and shall be reviewed prior to that date.

26         Section 3.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

27  law.
