  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to education; providing for

  3         weight to be given to specific courses when

  4         computing grade point averages; authorizing

  5         students to dually enroll in advanced placement

  6         courses; providing an effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10         Section 1.  In computing grade point averages, school

11  districts and community colleges must weigh rigorous

12  college-level dual enrollment courses the same as honors

13  courses or advanced placement courses when the high school

14  subject and the common-course-numbered course are of equal

15  academic value. Students may dually enroll in advanced

16  placement courses.

17         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1999.

20                          SENATE SUMMARY

21    Provides for school districts and community colleges to
      weigh similar courses in a specific way when computing
22    grade point averages. Authorizes students to dually
      enroll in advanced placement courses.
