  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to agriculture; creating the

  3         Florida Commission on Federal and State

  4         Agricultural Relations; providing for its

  5         membership and duties; providing an effective

  6         date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9

10         Section 1.  Florida Commission on Federal and State

11  Agricultural Relations.--

12         (1)(a)  There is created within the Department of

13  Agriculture and Consumer Services the Florida Commission on

14  Federal and State Agricultural Relations composed of 16

15  members. Two members shall be members of the Florida Senate

16  appointed by the President of the Senate; three members shall

17  be members of the Florida House of Representatives appointed

18  by the Speaker of the House of Representatives; two members

19  shall be members of Congress appointed by the Commissioner of

20  Agriculture. The President of the Senate, the Speaker of the

21  House of Representatives, the Governor, and the Commissioner

22  of Agriculture shall each appoint two residents of the state

23  who are engaged in the agriculture business, and each

24  appointing authority shall consult with all the other

25  appointing authorities to make certain that a diversity of

26  agricultural business interests are represented on the

27  commission. The resident agricultural members shall be

28  appointed to 4-year terms. A vacancy will be filled in the

29  same manner as the original appointment. The Commissioner of

30  Agriculture shall serve as chairperson of the Commission.

  1         (b)  Members shall serve without compensation, but may

  2  be reimbursed for per diem and travel expenses in accordance

  3  with s. 112.061.

  4         (2)  The commission shall coordinate efforts to

  5  maximize federal funds for Florida agricultural purposes.

  6         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

  7  law.
