13         Amendment 

14         On page 1, line 17 through page 2, line 18,

15  remove from the bill:  all of said lines

16

17  and insert in lieu thereof:  election, all registered

18  electors, regardless of party affiliation, may vote for that

19  office in the first primary election and, if necessary, in the

20  general election.

21         (2)  If two or more candidates have qualified and only

22  one political party is represented and there is no opposition

23  in the general election, the names of such candidates shall be

24  placed on the first primary election ballot of each political

25  party holding a primary election and on a ballot for voters

26  registered without party affiliation or registered in a party

27  that is not holding a primary election.  The office or offices

28  shall be grouped on a separate portion of the ballot or on a

29  separate ballot.  The offices shall be placed under the

30  heading of "Universal Primary" in the order determined by the

31  Department of State.  Following each candidate's name shall be

 1  the appropriate party-name abbreviation.

 2         (3)(a)  If any candidate for such office receives a

 3  majority of the votes cast for such office in the first

 4  primary election, the name of the candidate who receives such

 5  majority shall not appear on any other ballot. Such candidate

 6  shall be deemed to have voted for himself at the general

 7  election.

 8         (b)  If no candidate for such office receives a

 9  majority of the votes cast for such office in the first

10  primary election, the names of the two candidates receiving

11  the highest number of votes for such office shall be placed on

12  the general election ballot.  If
