  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution honoring Mr. Ed Holt.

  3

  4         WHEREAS, Mr. Ed Holt, a grocery proprietor and

  5  community leader, owns and runs the Holt and Stallings Grocery

  6  Store in the Talleyrand area in Jacksonville, and

  7         WHEREAS, Mr. Holt, a self-described Georgia farm boy,

  8  grew up among members of the Nunn political family, including

  9  Senator Sam Nunn, and developed friendships with Governor

10  Lawton Chiles and President and Mrs. Jimmy Carter, and

11         WHEREAS, even though Ed Holt and his wife never had any

12  children, they have decorated his store with his awards of

13  public service, campaign posters, and photographs of

14  dignitaries as a way to inspire youngsters who might visit the

15  store, and

16         WHEREAS, Mr. Holt was and is a participating member of

17  his community which would set up ball games and other

18  activities to keep the kids in the neighborhood occupied, one

19  later becoming a Miami school principal and another was

20  appointed a circuit judge in Kentucky, and

21         WHEREAS, Ed Holt found his community service niche by

22  serving on numerous boards of community organizations,

23  including the Jacksonville Electric Authority, the

24  Construction Trades Qualifying Board, and consumer panels for

25  BellSouth, the Florida Times-Union, and the Department of

26  Agriculture, NOW, THEREFORE,

28  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

  1         That the House of Representatives honors Mr. Ed Holt

  2  for his generosity, community spirit, neighborliness, and

  3  citizenship.
