  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to Department of Corrections;

  3         amending s. 944.10, F.S.; limiting to

  4         correctional projects the department's

  5         authority to contract with governmental

  6         entities for planning and designing buildings,

  7         parks, roads, and other projects; providing an

  8         effective date.

10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12         Section 1.  Subsection (7) of section 944.10, Florida

13  Statutes, is amended to read:

14         944.10  Department of Corrections to provide buildings;

15  sale and purchase of land; contracts to provide services and

16  inmate labor.--

17         (7)  The department may enter into contracts with

18  federal, state, or local governmental entities or subdivisions

19  to provide services and inmate labor for the construction of

20  buildings, parks, roads, any detention or commitment

21  facilities, or any other correctional project deemed to be

22  appropriate by the Department of Corrections, which includes

23  may include, but is not limited to, the planning, design, site

24  acquisition or preparation, management, or construction of

25  such projects. The department may charge fees for providing

26  such services. All fees collected must be placed in the

27  Correctional Work Program Trust Fund.

28         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1999.
