  1                      A bill to be entitled
  2         An act relating to the Veterans' Nursing Home
  3         of Florida; amending s. 296.36, F.S.;
  4         prescribing eligibility requirements for
  5         admittance to the home; providing an effective
  6         date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
  9
10         Section 1.  Paragraphs (c) and (d) are added to
11  subsection (1) of section 296.36, Florida Statutes, to read:
12         296.36  Eligibility and priority of admittance.--
13         (1)  To be eligible for admittance to the home, the
14  person must be a veteran as defined in s. 1.01(14) and must:
15         (a)  Be in need of nursing home care;.
16         (b)  Have been a resident of the state for 1 year
17  immediately preceding, and at the time of application for,
18  admission to the home;.
19         (c)  Not have an outstanding debt to the department for
20  services rendered during any previous stay at a department
21  facility; and
22         (d)  Have applied for all financial assistance
23  reasonably available through government sources.
24         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a
25  law.

  2                          SENATE SUMMARY
  3    Adds a requirement that in order to be eligible for
      admittance to the Veterans' Nursing Home of Florida a
  4    veteran must not have an outstanding debt to the
      Department of Veterans' Affairs for a previous stay at a
  5    department facility and must have applied for all
      financial assistance reasonably available through
  6    government sources.
