  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to water quality; amending s.

  3         403.861, F.S.; authorizing the Department of

  4         Environmental Protection to require suppliers

  5         of water to provide information concerning raw

  6         water supplies; providing an effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9

10         Section 1.  Subsection (17) of section 403.861, Florida

11  Statutes, is amended to read:

12         403.861  Department; powers and duties.--The department

13  shall have the power and the duty to carry out the provisions

14  and purposes of this act and, for this purpose, to:

15         (17)  Require suppliers of water to submit periodic

16  operating reports and testing data that which the department

17  determines are reasonably necessary to ascertain the adequacy

18  of water supply systems. The information may include raw water

19  data to determine whether additional treatment will be

20  required to ensure that water at the consumer's tap meets

21  applicable drinking-water standards and action levels.

22         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2001.

26    Authorizes the Department of Environmental Protection to
      require water suppliers to provide specified information
