  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to food product dating;

  3         requiring that food products display shelf-life

  4         expiration dates; providing exceptions;

  5         providing an effective date.

  7  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9         Section 1.  Any retail food product sold in a container

10  in the state must display a conspicuous notice that indicates

11  the month, day, and year of the expiration of the shelf-life

12  of the product. This section does not apply to fresh fruits

13  and vegetables or items that sell for less than 25 cents a

14  piece. The dating may be done by the seller, wholesaler,

15  vendor, or retailer.

16         Section 2.  This act shall take effect October 1, 2001.

18          STATEMENT OF SUBSTANTIAL CHANGES CONTAINED IN
                       COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR

21  Committee Substitute for Senate Bill 112 is different from
    Senate Bill 112 in that it authorizes sellers, wholesalers,
22  vendors, or retailers to display a conspicuous notice that
    indicates the expiration of a product's shelf-life. The terms
23  "BEST IF USED BY" and "SELL BY" were deleted.
