  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to high-occupancy vehicle

  3         lanes; amending s. 316.0741, F.S.; allowing

  4         certain energy-saving vehicles to travel in

  5         such lanes, regardless of occupancy; providing

  6         an effective date,

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9

10         Section 1.  Subsection (4) is added to section

11  316.0741, Florida Statutes, to read:

12         316.0741  High occupancy vehicle lanes.--

13         (4)  Notwithstanding provisions of this section to the

14  contrary, a vehicle powered by natural gas, electricity, a

15  gas-electric hybrid power system, or any other vehicle

16  classified as energy-conserving by the Department of Highway

17  Safety and Motor Vehicles may be driven in an HOV lane at any

18  time, regardless of its occupancy. The department shall issue

19  a decal to be placed on such vehicles authorizing such use.

20         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2001.
