15 On page 42, line 29, of the amendment

17 after "sale." insert: Nothing in this paragraph shall require
18 the payment of tax to this state for assessments made prior to
19 July 1, 2001, if the tax imposed by this section has been paid
20 to the state in which the vehicle was licensed and the
21 department has assessed a like amount of tax on the same
22 transaction. This applies retroactively to assessments which
23 have been protested prior to August 1, 1999, and have not been
24 paid on July 1, 2001.
