17 Section 1. Subsection (12) of section 328.72, Florida
18 Statutes, is amended to read:
19 328.72 Classification; registration; fees and charges;
20 surcharge; disposition of fees; fines; marine turtle
21 stickers.--
22 (12) REGISTRATION.--
23 (a) "Registration period" is a period of 12 months
24 during which a vessel registration is valid.
25 (b) "Renewal period" is a period of 30 days during
26 which renewal of a vessel registration is required, except as
27 otherwise provided by law.
28 (c) The following registration periods and renewal
29 periods are established:
30 1. For vessels owned by individuals, the registration
31 period begins the first day of the birth month of the owner

1 and ends the last day of the month immediately preceding the
2 owner's birth month in the succeeding year. If the vessel is
3 registered in the name of more than one person, the birth
4 month of the person whose name first appears on the
5 registration shall be used to determine the registration
6 period. For a vessel subject to this registration period, the
7 renewal period is the 30-day period ending at midnight on the
8 vessel owner's date of birth.
9 2. For vessels owned by companies, corporations,
10 governmental entities, and registrations issued to dealers and
11 manufacturers, the registration period begins July 1 and ends
12 June 30. The renewal period is the 30-day period beginning
13 June 1.
14 (d) Any vessel owner that is subject to registration
15 under subparagraph (c)1. is eligible for an extended
16 registration period, which begins the first day of the birth
17 month of the owner and ends the last day of the month
18 immediately preceding the owner's birth month 24 months after
19 the beginning of the registration period. If the vessel is
20 registered in the name of more than one person, the birth
21 month of the person whose name first appears on the
22 registration shall be used to determine the extended
23 registration period. For a vessel subject to this extended
24 registration period, the renewal period is the 30-day period
25 ending at midnight on the vessel owner's date of birth.
