  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution recognizing Wednesday and

  3         Thursday, April 4 and 5, 2001, as "Miami-Dade

  4         County Days."

  5

  6         WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County is a center of world

  7  finance, with 135 financial institutions and foreign agencies

  8  within its boundaries, and

  9         WHEREAS, Greater Miami-Dade County is the site of

10  approximately 50 foreign consulates and numerous international

11  trade offices and bi-national Chambers of Commerce, and

12         WHEREAS, the film and TV industry has made Miami-Dade

13  County one of the largest production centers in the nation,

14  and

15         WHEREAS, agriculture continues to provide significant

16  economic activity, and the industry has diversified such that

17  Miami-Dade County is one of the largest producers in the

18  United States of tropical fruits, ornamental plants, and fish,

19  and

20         WHEREAS, manufacturing is also a key industry in

21  Miami-Dade County, with nearly 3,000 companies that employ

22  approximately 80,000 individuals, and

23         WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County is experiencing a cultural

24  boom in world-class entertainment and cultural activities,

25  which is evidenced by the nonprofit cultural organizations

26  offering dance, theater, music and visual arts, and festivals

27  and special events, and

28         WHEREAS, the Miami-Dade community is a microcosm of the

29  world, in the number of countries represented, languages

30  spoken daily, and languages taught in the community's schools,

31  and a hub from which nonstop flights take passengers to Latin

  1  America and the Caribbean, and at which trade flourishes in

  2  the continental U.S. port located closest to Africa, NOW,

  3  THEREFORE,

  5  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

  6  Florida:

  7

  8         That Wednesday and Thursday, April 4 and 5, 2001, are

  9  recognized as "Miami-Dade County Days."
