11  Senator Carlton moved the following amendment:

13         Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 
14         Delete everything after the enacting clause
15  
16  and insert:  
17         Section 1.  Subsection (1) of section 11.13, Florida
18  Statutes, is amended to read:
19         11.13  Compensation of members.--
20         (1)(a)  The annual salaries of members of the Senate
21  and House of Representatives, payable in 12 equal monthly
22  installments, shall be:
23         1.  The President of the Senate and Speaker of the
24  House of Representatives, $25,000 each.
25         2.  All other members of the Senate and House of
26  Representatives, $18,000 each.
27         (b)  Effective July 1, 1986, and each July 1
28  thereafter, the annual salaries of members of the Senate and
29  House of Representatives shall be adjusted by the average
30  percentage increase in the salaries of state career service
31  employees for the fiscal year just concluded.  The

SENATE AMENDMENT Bill No. CS for SB 22-B Amendment No. ___ Barcode 870094 1 Appropriations Committee of each house shall certify to the 2 Office of Legislative Services the average percentage increase 3 in the salaries of state career service employees before July 4 1 of each year. The Office of Legislative Services shall, as 5 of July 1 of each year, determine the adjusted annual salaries 6 as provided herein. 7 (c) For the remainder of the 2001-2002 fiscal year 8 only, the monthly compensation provided to members of the 9 Senate and House of Representatives pursuant to this 10 subsection shall be an amount equal to the monthly installment 11 of the annual salary established pursuant to paragraphs (a) 12 and (b) that was payable for the 2000-2001 fiscal year. This 13 paragraph is repealed July 1, 2002. 14 Section 2. SENATE AMENDMENT Bill No. CS for SB 22-B Amendment No. ___ Barcode 870094 1 on September 11, 2001, have unfortunately accelerated and 2 deepened a downturn in the national economy which has affected 3 not only other national economies around the world but also 4 local economies across this country, especially the economies 5 of states like Florida which are dependent upon tourism for a 6 significant portion of their revenues, and 7 WHEREAS, this economic downturn has forced some 8 businesses in the state and around the country to downsize or 9 restructure to remain viable and this reduction or 10 restructuring has led to reductions in pay and benefits for 11 some employees and layoffs for others, and 12 WHEREAS, this economic downturn has led to concomitant 13 reductions and restructuring in the public sector as well, and 14 WHEREAS, accordingly, it is the intent of the members 15 of the Legislature to join our fellow citizens in this state 16 and across the country in doing our part not only to economize 17 and help restore the state and national economies but more 18 significantly to show our solidarity and resolve as a people 19 in the face of the despicable assault of September 11th on our 20 nation and way of life, NOW, THEREFORE, 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 3 9:07 AM 10/25/01 s0022Bc1c-24j01
