  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing December 16 as Battle

  3         of the Bulge Day.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, the Battle of the Bulge was fought between

  6  December 16, 1944 and January 25, 1945, and

  7         WHEREAS, more than a million soldiers, including

  8  600,000 Americans, fought in the battle, and

  9         WHEREAS, there were 81,000 American casualties,

10  including 23,554 captured, and 19,000 killed, and

11         WHEREAS, in terms of loss of American lives the Battle

12  of the Bulge was one of the most costly battles in World War

13  II, and

14         WHEREAS, the Battle of the Bulge has been called the

15  greatest American battle of the war and it has been the

16  subject of many books and movies, and

17         WHEREAS, the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge is an

18  organization that was formed in 1981 to honor the men who

19  fought in that battle, and

20         WHEREAS, there are 65 chapters with 15,000 members of

21  the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, NOW, THEREFORE,

22

23  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

24

25         That December 16 is recognized as Battle of the Bulge

26  Day to honor and commemorate the sacrifice and service of the

27  veterans who fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

28         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

29  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Alfred J.

30  Babecki, President of the Indian River Chapter of the Veterans
