  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to federal aid; amending s.

  3         339.12, F.S.; providing that certain counties

  4         levying the local option ninth-cent fuel tax

  5         shall receive preference points to calculate

  6         eligibility for receipt of any transportation

  7         grant for which the county applies; providing

  8         an effective date.

10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12         Section 1.  Subsection (10) is added to section 339.12,

13  Florida Statutes, to read:

14         339.12  Aid and contributions by governmental entities

15  for department projects; federal aid.--

16         (10)  Any county with a population greater than 50,000

17  which levies the local option ninth-cent fuel tax pursuant to

18  ss. 206.41(1)(d) and 206.87(1)(b) and which dedicates 50

19  percent or more of its one-penny local option sales tax for

20  improvements to the State Transportation System or to local

21  projects directly upgrading the State Transportation System

22  within the county's boundaries shall receive preference points

23  equaling 10 percent of the total points used to calculate

24  eligibility for receipt of any transportation grant for which

25  said county applies.

26         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2002.
