  1                         House Resolution
  2         A resolution proclaiming March 6, 2002, as
  3         "University of Florida Intercollegiate
  4         Athletics Day."
  5
  6         WHEREAS, the University of Florida has achieved another
  7  highly successful season in conference and nonconference play
  8  throughout all of its intercollegiate sports programs, leading
  9  to its tenth consecutive Southeastern Conference All-Sports
10  Award, and is one of only two universities to rank in the top
11  10 in national all-sports rankings in each of the last 18
12  years, and
13         WHEREAS, the University of Florida won the 2001 Men's
14  Golf National Championship under the leadership of Coach Buddy
15  Alexander, and, since the beginning of the 2000-2001 academic
16  year, has won Southeastern Conference Championships in
17  football, soccer, volleyball, men's basketball, and women's
18  tennis, and
19         WHEREAS, since 1980, the University of Florida has
20  earned, in aggregate, 13 NCAA Championships for the sports of
21  football, soccer, men's golf, women's golf, men's swimming and
22  diving, women's swimming and diving, women's tennis, and
23  women's track and field, and has earned a total of 153
24  Southeastern Conference titles since joining that conference,
25  and
26         WHEREAS, the University of Florida has honored 41
27  Academic All-Americans since 1992, to rank fourth among all
28  NCAA Division 1 schools during that time, and
29         WHEREAS, the University of Florida realized a league
30  and school record of 133 student-athlete names being added to

  1  the Southeastern Conference's Academic Honor Roll in
  2  2000-2001, and
  3         WHEREAS, the Pro Football Hall of Fame inducted former
  4  University of Florida All-American Jack Youngblood into the
  5  2001 Hall of Fame Class, and
  6         WHEREAS, the year 2002 began with the departure of
  7  Coach Steve Spurrier, who, in his 12-year career in
  8  Gainesville, compiled a 122-27-1 record and an NCAA National
  9  Championship, and the university welcomed Coach Ron Zook to
10  direct the Gator Football Team to further exceptional
11  achievements, NOW, THEREFORE,

13  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
14  Florida:

16         That March 6, 2002, be proclaimed University of Florida
17  Intercollegiate Athletics Day in recognition of the
18  outstanding achievements and dedication to the ideals of the
19  student-athlete demonstrated by the University of Florida.
