15         On page 2, line 1,

17     insert:  
18         Section 2.  Section 16.57, Florida Statutes, is amended
19  to read:
20         16.57  Office of Civil Rights.--There is created in the
21  Department of Legal Affairs an Office of Civil Rights.  The
22  office may investigate and initiate actions authorized by s.
23  760.021, Florida Statutes, s. 760.51, and s.760.60. In
24  investigating violations of constitutional and statutory
25  rights under these sections s. 760.51, the Attorney General
26  may administer oaths and affirmations, subpoena witnesses or
27  matter, and collect evidence.

 9         conforming statutory cross-references to the
10         Attorney General's authority to investigate and
11         initiate actions for discriminatory practices
12         in violation of civil rights;
