  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing April 2, 2003, as

  3         "Sexual Assault Awareness Day."

  4

  5         WHEREAS, sexual assault continues to be a major social

  6  and health crisis in our society, and

  7         WHEREAS, sexual assault affects every child and adult

  8  in Florida as a victim or survivor or as a family member,

  9  significant other, neighbor, or co-worker of a victim or

10  survivor, and

11         WHEREAS, volunteers and service providers in our state

12  are working to provide a continuum of care to sexual assault

13  survivors through law enforcement, 24-hour hotlines,

14  counseling, support groups, advocacy, medical care, and

15  education, and

16         WHEREAS, Florida seeks to improve services for victims

17  and survivors of sexual assault and prevent future sexual

18  assault through public awareness and services for victims, and

19         WHEREAS, this state recognizes the vital importance of

20  designating a time devoted to increasing the public's

21  awareness and support of agencies providing services to rape

22  victims, and

23         WHEREAS, we hold forth a vision of a state free from

24  sexual violence, NOW, THEREFORE,

26  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

27

28         That April 2, 2003 is recognized as "Sexual Assault

29  Awareness Day."
