| 1 | A bill to be entitled | ||
| 2 | An act relating to specialty license plates; amending ss. | ||
| 3 | 320.08056, 320.08058, F.S.; creating a Live the Dream | ||
| 4 | license plate; providing for the distribution of annual | ||
| 5 | use fees received from the sale of such plates; providing | ||
| 6 | an effective date. | ||

| 8 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: | ||
| 9 | |||
| 10 | Section 1. Paragraph (mm) is added to subsection (4) of | ||
| 11 | section 320.08056, Florida Statutes, to read: | ||
| 12 | 320.08056 Specialty license plates.-- | ||
| 13 | (4) The following license plate annual use fees shall be | ||
| 14 | collected for the appropriate specialty license plates: | ||
| 15 | (mm) Live the Dream license plate, $25. | ||
| 16 | Section 2. Subsection (39) is added to section 320.08058, | ||
| 17 | Florida Statutes, to read: | ||
| 18 | 320.08058 Specialty license plates.-- | ||
| 19 | (39) LIVE THE DREAM LICENSE PLATES.-- | ||
| 20 | (a) The department shall develop a Live the Dream license | ||
| 21 | plate as provided in this section. The word "Florida" must | ||
| 22 | appear at the top of the plate, and the words "Live the Dream" | ||
| 23 | must appear at the bottom of the plate. | ||
| 24 | (b) The annual use fees shall be distributed to the Dream | ||
| 25 | Foundation, Inc., which may use up to 25 percent of the proceeds | ||
| 26 | to market the organization's concept and the license plate. The | ||
| 27 | remaining funds shall be used to provide: | ||
| 28 | 1. Education and awareness programs for dental health | ||
| 29 | awareness; | ||
| 30 | 2. Procurement and distribution of inexpensive or free | ||
| 31 | access to medical and dental products and services for | ||
| 32 | underprivileged persons; | ||
| 33 | 3. Improved access to affordable dental and medical | ||
| 34 | treatment for underprivileged persons; | ||
| 35 | 4. Need-based scholarships for Florida students to attend | ||
| 36 | a Florida dental school; and | ||
| 37 | 5. Grants to develop dental clinics that provide | ||
| 38 | affordable or free dental services to underprivileged persons in | ||
| 39 | areas where adequate dental treatment is unavailable. | ||
| 40 | Section 3. This act shall take effect July 1, 2003. | ||
