  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to prescriptions for medicinal

  3         drugs; prohibiting persons from requiring the

  4         use of a federally issued prescriber

  5         identification number on a prescription when

  6         such use is not otherwise required; providing

  7         penalties; providing an effective date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10  

11         Section 1.  It is unlawful for any person, firm, or

12  corporation to require the use on a prescription of a

13  federally issued registration number that authorizes the

14  prescriber to prescribe controlled substances or scheduled

15  drugs when that use is not otherwise required by federal or

16  state law or rule. Violation of this section constitutes a

17  misdemeanor of the second degree, punishable as provided in

18  section 775.082 or section 775.083, Florida Statutes.

19         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2003.

22                          SENATE SUMMARY

23    Prohibits persons, firms, and corporations from requiring
      the use of a federally issued identification number on
24    any prescription that is not required by federal or state
      law or rule to have it. Violation constitutes a
25    second-degree misdemeanor.
