  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the title insurer and title

  3         insurance agency administrative surcharge;

  4         amending s. 624.501, F.S.; deleting the

  5         surcharge; providing an effective date.

  7  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  8

  9         Section 1.  Paragraph (e) of subsection (27) of section

10  624.501, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:

11         624.501  Filing, license, appointment, and

12  miscellaneous fees.--The department shall collect in advance,

13  and persons so served shall pay to it in advance, fees,

14  licenses, and miscellaneous charges as follows:

15         (27)  Title insurance agents:

16         (e)  Title insurer and title insurance agency

17  administrative surcharge:

18         1.  On or before January 30 of each calendar year, each

19  title insurer shall pay to the department for each licensed

20  title insurance agency appointed by the title insurer and for

21  each retail office of the insurer on January 1 of that

22  calendar year an administrative surcharge of $200.00.

23         2.  On or before January 30 of each calendar year, each

24  licensed title insurance agency shall remit to the department

25  an administrative surcharge of $200.00.

27  The administrative surcharge may be used solely to defray the

28  costs to the department in its examination or audit of title

29  insurance agencies and retail offices of title insurers and to

30  gather title insurance data for statistical purposes in its

31  regulation of title insurance.

  1         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

  2  law.
