  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the use of credit reports;

  3         prohibiting the use of such reports for

  4         specified purposes; providing an effective

  5         date.

  7  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  8  

  9         Section 1.   Use of credit reports by landlords and

10  employers prohibited.--

11         (1)  A landlord, a rental agency, or any other person

12  or entity may not use a credit report as a basis for deciding

13  whether to rent residential premises to a prospective tenant.

14         (2)  An employer may not use a job applicant's credit

15  rating as a basis for deciding whether to employ the

16  applicant.

17         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2003.

20                          SENATE SUMMARY

21    Prohibits the use of credit reports by landlords as a
      basis for deciding whether to rent residential premises
22    to a prospective tenant or by employers as a basis for
      deciding whether to hire a job applicant.
