2 A resolution recognizing the affiliated Florida
3 Chapters of the Association for Retarded
4 Citizens for more than 50 years of community
5 service.

7 WHEREAS, the affiliated chapters of ARC/Florida have
8 provided many years of community services and have helped
9 hundreds of families and their loved ones, and
10 WHEREAS, these local chapters provide training,
11 education, jobs, family supports, and other services that are
12 crucial in helping persons with retardation remain with their
13 families or provide for their own support, and
14 WHEREAS, these local chapters provide residential
15 services in the form of group homes and other settings for
16 people who can no longer remain with their families or live
17 independently, and
18 WHEREAS, these services help persons with retardation
19 remain within their communities and avoid the use of high-cost
20 institutional care, and
21 WHEREAS, the ARC/Florida and its local affiliated
22 chapters have provided more than 50 years of continuous
23 advocacy and services to people in this state, and
24 WHEREAS, March has been declared Mental Retardation
25 Month, NOW, THEREFORE,

27 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

29 That the Florida Senate recognizes ARC/Florida and its
30 affiliates throughout the state for their exemplary
