  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the Florida Keys Mosquito

  3         Control District, Monroe County; amending

  4         chapter 2002-346, Laws of Florida; increasing

  5         the amount of money which may be borrowed from

  6         $150,000 for a period of time not to exceed 2

  7         years to $1 million for a period of time not to

  8         exceed 5 years; providing an effective date.

10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11  

12         Section 1.  Section 5 of chapter 2002-346, Laws of

13  Florida, is amended to read:

14         Section 5.  Powers of the board of commissioners.--The

15  board of commissioners shall have all the powers of a body

16  corporate, including the power to sue and be sued as a

17  corporation in said name in any court; to contract; to adopt

18  and use a common seal and alter the same at pleasure; to

19  purchase, hold, lease, and convey such real estate and

20  personal property as a majority of the board may deem proper

21  to carry out the purposes of this act; to prescribe rules and

22  regulations for the marking of such property; to employ a

23  director and such experts, agents, and employees as the board

24  may require; to participate with employees in a group

25  hospitalization insurance plan providing the entire cost of

26  such a plan; to contract and cooperate with county, state, and

27  other governmental agencies in regard to mosquito control or

28  suppression; to borrow money in an amount not to exceed $1

29  million $150,000 for a period of time not to exceed 5 2 years;

30  and to issue negotiable promissory notes and bonds or such

 1  necessary instruments to secure said loan to enable it to

 2  carry out the provisions of this act.

 3         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

 4  law.
