1	A bill to be entitled
2	An act relating to the East County Water Control District,
3	Hendry and Lee Counties; amending ch. 2000-423, Laws of
4	Florida; providing for the apportionment of maintenance
5	taxes equitably to all equally benefited properties;
6	providing an effective date.

8	Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10	Section 1. Section 3 of section 3 of chapter 2000-423,
11	Laws of Florida, is amended to read:
12	Section 3. Maintenance assessments.--Maintenance
13	assessments as provided for under section 298.54, Florida
14	Statutes, shall be apportioned upon the basis of the net
15	assessments of benefits assessed as accruing from original
16	constructionand any subsequent improvements, and shall be due
17	and collected pursuant to section 298.54, Florida Statutes,
18	chapter 197, Florida Statutes, and this act.Provided, nothing
19	herein shall prevent the Board of Supervisors from apportioning
20	maintenance taxes for the maintenance of the district facilities
21	equally to all benefited acres if the Board of Supervisors
22	determines that benefits are substantially equal for benefited
23	acreage throughout the District.Said assessments shall be a
24	lien until paid on the property against which assessed and
25	enforceable in like manner as county taxes.
26	Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law.
