An act relating to the John M. McKay Scholarships for |

Students with Disabilities Program; amending s. 1002.39, |

F.S.; requiring specified certification of teachers who |

provide instruction to scholarship recipients in private |
|

schools; providing an effective date. |
|

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
|

|
|
|

|
Section 1. Paragraph (f) of subsection (4) of section |
|
11
|
1002.39, Florida Statutes, is amended to read: |
|
12
|
1002.39 The John M. McKay Scholarships for Students with |
|
13
|
Disabilities Program.--There is established a program that is |
|
14
|
separate and distinct from the Opportunity Scholarship Program |
|
15
|
and is named the John M. McKay Scholarships for Students with |
|
16
|
Disabilities Program, pursuant to this section. |
|
17
|
(4) PRIVATE SCHOOL ELIGIBILITY.--To be eligible to |
|
18
|
participate in the John M. McKay Scholarships for Students with |
|
19
|
Disabilities Program, a private school must be a Florida private |
|
20
|
school, may be sectarian or nonsectarian, and must: |
|
21
|
(f) Beginning in the 2003-2004 school year,employ or |
|
22
|
contract with teachers who are certified for each grade level, |
|
23
|
subject area, and exceptionality in which the teacher provides |
|
24
|
instruction to a recipient of a John M. McKay Scholarshiphold |
|
25
|
baccalaureate or higher degrees, or have at least 3 years of |
|
26
|
teaching experience in public or private schools, or have |
|
27
|
special skills, knowledge, or expertise that qualifies them to |
|
28
|
provide instruction in subjects taught. |

29
|
Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law. |
